Geographical position:
on the North is surrounded by the Black Sea;
on the North-East borders with Georgia and Armenia;
on the East borders with İran;
on the South-East borders with İraq;
on the South is surrounded with Mediterrenian Sea and borders with Syria;
on the West is surrounded by Aegean Sea;
on the North-West borders with Bulgary and Greece.
Europian and Asian parts are devided by Bosfor Channel, Sea of Marmara and Dardanells Channel. 3% of Turkey’s territory belongs to Europe and 97% to Asia. Europian part has one more name – East Frakia or Rumelia, and is a flatland region on the East of which is strtched a chain of mountains with the highest mountain of them – Ulu 2543 m high.
Asian part of Turkey is also called Anatolia and is devided into 6 phisiogeographical parts: the region of Aegean and Mediterranean seas, Black Sea region, West Anatolia, Anatolian plateau, Easten highland and South-East Anatolia region.
The coasts of the Mediterranean and Aegean seas are long, narrow and hilly.
Pontic Mountains are staratched in the Black Sea region.
West Anatolia is the mixture of chains of mountains and rivers’ valleys. The highest of them is the mountain Uludag (2453 m).
Anatolian Plateau, being the largest region of the coutry, is surrounded from all the sides by mountains. The highest point of it is Ersies mountain(3916 m).
Easten Highland is the most mountainy part of the country and also is famouse by the Ararat mountain. According to the legend Noah’s Ark hited here. Tigris and Euphrates rivers got their starts here.

South-Easten Anatolia is a plateau surrounded by mountains from every side except of the South.

The longest river of Turkey Kızıl Irmak is stretched for 1150 km.
The largest lake of Turkey Van (3765 sq.km) is not smaller then intra seas. Till nowerdays it is not clear real deepness of the lake. It considered to be known as 400 m deep.

Money: Turkish Lira(Tl). But in the holiday cities it is not nessessary to change money for Liras. İn every shop, big market, or even in the market-place you can pay by Euro, British Pounds or Dollars.
Language: the official language of the country is Turkish but in the holiday cities almost everybody speaks at least one foreign language. If it is Fethiye, Marmaris or Bodrum, you should speak English or Franch, but if you plan to go to Antalya region it is better to know Russian or German. İn Turkey people say that Fethiye is the motherland of English people and Antalya- of Russian and German people.
